Methodology
Every number on Real Estate Pass Rates comes from a published source: state regulators for pass rates and fees, exam vendor handbooks for exam rules, schools' own pages for course prices and the Bureau of Labor Statistics for pay. Each figure shows its source link and the date it was checked.
Sources
The main sources behind the pages published here:
- Texas: Texas Real Estate Commission, pass-rate data (first-time takers, Dec 2023 to Nov 2025), exam vendor Pearson
- Salaries: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, OEWS (May 2025 estimates)
Exam rules such as the number of questions, time limits and retakes come from the candidate handbooks of the testing companies that run each state's exam, such as Pearson VUE and PSI.
Pass-rate measures
Regulators publish one of two measures. A first-attempt rate counts only people taking the exam for the first time. An all-attempts rate counts every exam sitting, retakes included. Each table shows exactly the measure the regulator publishes, labeled first-time takers or all attempts, with its period. Rates measured in different ways are never combined into one number, and schools are compared only within one state.
Small samples and ranking
A school with fewer than 30 takers is marked small sample and listed after the ranked schools, because a few results can swing its rate. Ranked schools are sorted by pass rate, then by number of takers. A state gets a separate schools page only when at least three schools reach 30 takers; otherwise the table is part of the state guide. Partnerships with schools never change the order.
School names
Regulators list schools under legal or brand names, sometimes several for one school. Names of the same school are matched and shown as one row, and each online school profile lists the names used for it in each state.
Fees and the cost calculator
A state gets a cost page only when its exam fee and its application or license fee are confirmed from an official source. Fingerprinting is priced by the vendor the state uses and is labeled set by vendor. The course row uses the regular list prices on the schools' own pages; sale prices and coupon codes are left out.
Older data
When a regulator's latest data ends more than 12 months before today, the table says so with the label Latest published by the regulator and the period. The data is still shown, because it is the newest official figure.
How data is collected and updated
Each value records how it was collected: direct (read from the source), wayback (read from a web.archive.org snapshot when the source blocks automated access) or manual (checked by hand in a browser). Pass rates are rechecked on each regulator's publishing schedule, and new data rebuilds the pages. If a source breaks, the site keeps the last checked figures with their dates.
Salaries
Pay figures are Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics estimates for Real Estate Sales Agents (SOC 41-9022), May 2025. The survey counts wage and salary workers, leaves out the self-employed, and its wages include commissions. See real estate agent salary by state.
